We
are sorry to report that the Governor has signed the revived
version of the animal and ecoterrorism bill. The new version
was introduced and passed by the state legislature after an
original version had been vetoed by the Governor two years
in a row, including once earlier in this year's session. Although
this measure has been substantially watered down from its
original wording, it sets a precedent by adding "animal
and ecological terrorism" to Arizona's RICO (racketeering)
statutes. The model animal and ecoterrorism bill was initiated
by special interest industry groups, including arms manufacterers,
agribusiness, fur, oil, and tobacco companies.
